Test, schedule and send

Click Send test in the editor and enter an address. The test:

  • goes straight through your provider, with [Test] before the subject
  • fills merge fields from one of your contacts
  • records nothing: no send history, and its unsubscribe link opens a page that says it was a test

Tests work during and after the trial, and with no license.

Click Send to N contacts (or press ⌘↵). The button shows how many contacts the audience reaches right now. To schedule straight away, open the arrow next to it and choose Schedule for later. Either way, Rowsend saves the campaign first, then opens a dialog with the recipient count, the from address and any warnings, such as an email with no unsubscribe link. Choose:

  • Now to start sending straight away. Once it’s sent, you can’t take it back.
  • Later to pick a time under Send at, then click Schedule.

If the button is greyed out, hover over it to see what’s missing, such as a sender or a subject. You don’t need to save first: a campaign saves itself a moment after you stop typing, once it has a subject.

Sending or scheduling a campaign to your contacts needs the trial or a license. Agents can draft campaigns but can’t send or schedule them.

Rowsend works out the recipients when the campaign starts, not when you schedule it, so contacts synced in between are included.

Rowsend has to be running at the scheduled time. Closing the window is fine; quitting isn’t. If Rowsend wasn’t running and the campaign is more than an hour late, it goes back to being a draft with a note saying why, rather than going out late. Rowsend Cloud can send it with your computer off instead; see Rowsend Cloud.

To change a scheduled campaign, click Unschedule and edit. Send now sends it straight away.

The Campaigns list: sent, scheduled and draft campaigns with their recipients

Rowsend hands messages to your provider at the sender’s rate limit. The campaign page shows them going out.

  • Pause holds the messages still waiting. Resume carries on.
  • Cancel send drops the messages still waiting, for good.
  • Messages already handed to your provider can’t be recalled by either.
  • Contacts who unsubscribe, bounce or complain while a campaign sends are skipped from then on.
  • Retry failed sends again to recipients whose message failed, skipping anyone who unsubscribed since.

Rowsend needs to stay running while a campaign sends. If you quit, the rest waits and goes out when you open Rowsend again. A message that was being handed to your provider at that moment shows as failed, with “Interrupted before the provider confirmed it”, because Rowsend can’t tell whether the provider took it. Retry failed sends it again; skip that if a duplicate would be worse than a missed email. See Rowsend has to be running to send.

The campaign page shows how many were sent, Delivered, Bounced, Complained and Unsubscribed, plus each recipient’s status. Rowsend keeps collecting bounces, complaints and deliveries for 24 hours after a campaign finishes.

Delivered counts come from Amazon SES, Postmark and Mailgun. SMTP doesn’t report deliveries, so it shows none.

Rowsend doesn’t track opens or clicks.
