Bounces and complaints
A bounce means an address can’t receive mail. A complaint means someone marked your email as spam. Mailbox providers watch how often both happen, and senders who keep emailing bad addresses land in spam. So Rowsend stops emailing those contacts.
What Rowsend does
Section titled “What Rowsend does”| Event | What happens |
|---|---|
| Hard bounce (the address doesn’t exist) | The contact is unsubscribed from everything |
| Spam complaint | The contact is unsubscribed from everything |
| Soft bounce (mailbox full, server busy) | Noted on the send. The contact stays subscribed. |
Contacts unsubscribed this way show Bounced or Complained on the Contacts page. A send already in progress skips them from that point on. You can resubscribe a contact by hand if you know the address works again.
How each provider reports them
Section titled “How each provider reports them”| Provider | Setup | Works with the companion on this computer |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon SES | Click Set up bounce tracking once | Yes |
| Postmark | None | Yes |
| Mailgun | None | Yes |
| SMTP | Nothing on Rowsend Cloud. On your own server, a bounce domain. | No |
Rowsend checks for new events while a campaign sends and for 24 hours after, so late bounces still count.
